Prospective customer
-
As a prospective customer, I would like answers to a few questions before I sign on (though I have opened an account). I’ve read that the community is supposed to take care of support, but why can’t proper staff who actually work for WordPress directly answer a few simple questions?
Here are my questions:
1) I understand that there is an annual fee for a WP account at the Premium level, but if you also buy a premium theme, say for $99, is that premium theme a separate charge, and/or a one-time charge or a yearly recurring charge?
2) I assume that subscribing to a Premium Account would also allow you to also buy a Premium Theme. Is that correct? I ask because the chart on https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/ has two intersecting categories, both referring to “premium.” Very confusing.
3) I intend to use my own domain name, already registered. If I register a Premium Account and buy a Premium Theme, does that take care of the upgrade that allows customization, or is there still a separate charge?
4) Under TERMS OF SERVICE you state that “Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an C or a VIP Services account.” In real practice, do you really add advertisements? And how much does the Ad-free Upgrade cost?
5) “Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased.”
Again, in practice, do you really insist on this? Can I opt out?
This seems like a good service, but it would be even better if some staff were on hand to answer questions of this sort – in particular, only someone working for the company should be responsible for answering pricing questions. With a live staff member this conversation or email would have lasted about 3 minutes.
However, thanks in advance to anyone who can be of help.
Regards,

See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/
Note that none of the plans allow you to run advertising or to upload your own themes or plugins. WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for eCommerce transactions. If you need a site that requires a custom theme or plugins — e.g., if you want to be able to sell things directly from your site, or if you want to install discussion forums — a self-hosted WordPress site might be right for you.

See here from your answer http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/
It’s a one time purchase for as long as the blog is hosted by WordPress.com. -

The premium bundle does not list a premium theme because a premium theme is a separate upgrade purchase.

http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/ includes the custom design upgrade
What you’ll get with this upgrade
The included domain credit lets you add a custom domain to your blog (so ‘wordpress.com’ won’t be part of your blog’s address).
Upload HD videos directly to your blog with VideoPress. No ads, no time limits, no watermarks — just your video.
Choose custom fonts and colors with Custom Design, or go under the hood with the CSS editor.
The No Ads upgrade makes sure ads will never show up on your blog.
Extra 10GB of storage space will give you ample room for images, audio and video. -
4) Under TERMS OF SERVICE you state that “Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an C or a VIP Services account.” In real practice, do you really add advertisements? And how much does the Ad-free Upgrade cost?

In real practice, do you really add advertisements?
Yes! There have been ads since 2006 on free hosted WordPress.com blogs.
-
5) “Attribution.

Thank you timethief for your quick multiple replies – you present a lot to digest and I will do my best to follow up.
Just to be clear, I have no interest in advertising or selling anything from the site. I just don’t want any other advertisements, including those of WordPress on the site.

To be clear no blogger initiated advertising is allowed on any free hosted WordPress.com blog. You eliminate ads by purchasing either an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade or by purchasing an annually renewable bundle that includes the No-Ads upgrade.
