Hi there, on what site is this?

You should never share your personal log-in details with anyone. If someone needs to be added to your site to help develop it, there are ways of doing so without giving them your personal log-in info.

Wow, thank you for that advice. Would you be able to tell me what the other options are? I apologise if I am taking up your time.

No need to apologize, but in order to point you in the right direction for support, we really do need to know what site this is on.

  • Hi,

What is the URL of the site you are trying to have a developer access? We’ll be happy to take a look and see if we can help.

Hello, thank you for your help. The URL is http://www.trueariesdiamond.co.uk

  • Hi there,

That site isn’t hosted with us on WordPress.com, so sharing your WordPress.com account details won’t give your developer access to your site.

You’re using the open source version of WordPress at another host.

I’m assuming the developer needs access to WP-Admin, i.e. your site’s dashboard, right? To give them that access, you can create a new user account for them:

In WP-Admin, go to Users ->Add New, create a new user account, enter your developer’s email address and a username for them – I’d go with something that clearly indicates what the account is for – and assign the user role they need. If they need to be able to make changes like installing plugins, etc, they’ll need to be an admin.

Once you save the changes, the developer will receive an email with their login details which they can use to access the site. Once they’re done with the work, you can then delete that user account to revoke their access.

In all this they’ll only have access to your site’s dashboard. They’ll never have access to your billing details, which are in your hosting account at your hosting provider, One.com.

If the developer instead say they need access to the hosting account, it’s most likely so they can access the database, or access your site’s files via FTP. In that case, contact support at One.com directly. They’ll be able to tell you how share access to those with a third party without giving them your login to your hosting account itself.

    Hope this helps :)
