Public display name error

    A few weeks back I noticed that my public display name has an error in it. Instead of showing as O’Connell I get O’Connell, or sometimes even more back slashes. This is a totally new problem – I have been blogging since May 2006.

    So I have my first name and last name in place, then choose the correct one that matches in the drop down ‘display name publicly’. The correct version is there! But when I save it, an incorrect version appears and is displayed.

    What is wrong. Why can’t I have my own public name as Judy O’Connell without a problem. Any help on this – though I think it is a WordPress backend technical issue – support has been closed since last year.

    I’d bet (almost) anything the backslash is “escaping” the single quote. And yeah, it’s gonna take a code change to fix it. I’ve seen places where you get something like “I\\\\\’m going to school.” Not pretty.
