Publication of pages

  when we publish a “page” (as distinct from a “post”), does this automatically go out as a notification to email followers? Or is the term “post” generic for both posts and pages?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  No it does not because there is no RSS Feed for Pages. There is only an RSS Feed for Posts. http://spmay.wordpress.com/feed/
