Publicize facebook and images

Hi wordpress people!
I just wanted to ask about the Publicize facebook function, and how it does images.
The help pages says it should step through several choices depending on if there’s an image in the blog post, and eventually use the gravatar image if no others are present. This page is here –

Except this doesn’t seem to be happening for me. If there is an image in the post, it picks that up all right, but if there isn’t an image, instead of the gravatar, I get the “W” wordpress logo.
I just wondered if this page might be out of date, or if my publicize connection was messed up or something? Or if it’s just facebook and there’s nothing really to do.
Oh yeah, I tried disconnecting at both ends and reconnecting, but hope, still no picture.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention! I’ve been testing it myself and have gotten the same results, and I know that my own gravatar is working correctly!
I’ve reached out to the folks who run the Publicize feature. As soon as I get some clarification from them I will let you know what I’ve found out! Thanks again!

And yes, I should have said, my gravatar seems to work right too everywhere else, at least it shows up on other blogs comments and things like that!

Not a problem! I’m still waiting on any information. Fair warning, it’s looking like it may not be until Monday (I’ll be out until then if nothing else), so no need to sit by the computer until then.

I’m so sorry that it’s taken so long to get back to you. It took a bit to dig in to the issue.
It turns out that standard posts are indeed being handled somewhat differently since Facebook rolled out their OpenGraph setup. Previously we sent images to Facebook. Now they read OpenGraph tags, and they don’t hit the same ones which we had sent over before.
We’ve updated the help article which you referenced before to have the correct order of items. You can see it right here:

Thank you for checking, and really no problem on the timeframe – it’s hardly a critical issue.
It’s good to be clear on what is happening though. So I guess, I need to have a link to the gravatar image somewhere in the post so that facebook shows it, but not in the first 256 characters so tumblr turns it into an image post and doesn’t show words at all…
