Publicize – General newbie question

Hi all. For our fairly new blog I thought of signing up with Twitter, for a start, to be able to use the publicise feature. Does that make sense if one has no friends or followers on any social networks yet? Where would publicize appear, only on ones own lonely twitter account? My idea was that the new posts be tweeted to all on twitter that I *think* might be interested in them, i.e. that I can add the addresses who to be alerted? Sorry for being so clueless but I have never seen a social network from the inside… thanks for nudging me in the right direction :)

Publicize allows you to connect your blog to various social networks so that your new posts can be publicized on the connected networks, as soon as you hit Publish.
Before hitting Publish on your new post, you can also choose which of the connected social networks to share your post on. You don’t necessarily have to share your post on all the connected services, if you so wish.

You can still publicize even if you have no followers/friends yet. Your friends will be able to see your posts once come aboard.

No, your new posted will be tweeted on your connected twitter account. It is like any of your other tweets: ALL your followers will be able to see it. Not just the people who you think are interested. If your twitter account is public, even I will be able to see it :)

No problem at all. Check the Publicize support guide I linked above and start publicizing few posts. You will be a pro in no time :)

Hi! registering with Twitter went free of hassle, once in I made a few tweets myself and and posted a new WP post yesterday. On Tw., I choose abt 50 others to follow them, and got 12 followers for us. I feel that the most important for a good start is to make a lot of interesting tweets yourself right on the first couple of days so that people get interested in what you have to say or show. They will then follow you – and recieve the automated tweets from WP. Visitor stats to our blog have risen after I registered, remains to be seen if that was due to the Tweeters :) . I hope this helps some others to do the step (go twitterin) and get more attention for their blogs.
