publicize issues

    I hope someone can help.

I recently created a twitter page and a google+ page to go with my blog. Manually I have gone back through my older posts, chose edit, put a tick in the two tick boxes and then hit update. For most posts (81 of them in fact) this has been fine and the post has appeared in my twitter and google+ timelines.

However some posts do not appear and this is what is confusing me.

I have unconnected and reconnected both apps
I have cleared all my cookies

And still certain posts will appear and certain ones don’t it seem random, they are all public and published posts, no drafts or anything like that., can anyone advise please?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

after doing a little troubleshooting, it may seem that the posts that are not appearing have an image before any text. Surely this should not effect if a post is published to another social media site, can you please advise.

    Hi!

Just to be clear, when you go back to edit these posts, are they already-published posts that you’re updating? Or, are they drafts that you’re publishing? Editing an already-published post will not cause that post to be Publicized. Posts are only Publicized when they’re initially posted to your site.

They are already published posts, I am not updating any text just selecting the 2 other social media options then clicking update.

You say that editing an already published post will not cause it to be publicized, but over 100 posts HAVE been publized via the same method. So it would seem that that is not entirely accurate. I was doing this en masse yesterday, most posts publicized, a few didnt.

When I checked the few that didnt the posts started with a picture, I then started putting the picture at the bottom of the post and they started to publicize again.

However the ones that had not worked, would still not publicize after i had moved the picture. Only ones that I had not attempted before.

    thanks

here is the twitter link, as you can see 113 posts publicized there yesterday, I used the same method on each of my posts.

    Hi!

That’s odd that this worked – the Publicize action is tied into the post publishing so re-publishing a post should not cause this to happen. Were the posts that worked previously saved as private posts by chance?

  • Unknown's avatar

There was a time recently when I set all my posts to private, as I was going to have an invite only blog, but that had complications so I made them public again, this was on ALL posts so including the ones that have worked and not worked. That was a week or so ago.

When I publicized the posts they were all public at that time though.

Thanks for clarifying! I’m going to do some digging as to why these posts publicized if they were only re-posted from drafts (not original posts). However, this isn’t an intended function. Saving a post as a draft and then republishing it should not generate another Publicize action. You will need to manually share your other posts!

Hi, these were not drafts, they were previously published posts that I merely went bac into, set the publicize flags and updated.

I understand. I’m not sure why this worked for some of your posts. However, this should not work. You will need to manually share any previous posts that were not Publicized.

Yeah, I have manually shared the ones that do not work via the update post option by sharing via the twitter/g+ share button. Thanks for looking into this.
