Publicize link not created

For my latest draft post, the wp shortlink to my post that is normally automatically generated as part of Publicize was not created. How can I get this link generated so that I can publish my post? Thanks.

The shortlink for any post is always available as soon as you have created a title for your post. You can find the shortlink a number of ways, which we detail in this help article:

Hi, thanks for pointing me to the Get shortlink function through the article. I hadn’t needed to use this before, because normally when I create a post, the shortlink is automatically added to the “Publicize” post message under the Publish section at the top right of a post. In the past, when I have gone in to edit the message under Publicize before I publish to Twitter etc., the shortlink has been there. Now when I create posts it is missing, so I need to copy and paste the shortlink from the Get Shortlink function. Is there a reason why this automatic publishing of the shortlink under Publicize has disappeared? As far as I know, I haven’t changed any of my settings. Thanks. :)

Sorry for the delay in response. Your message must have come in right when I left.
I want to make sure of something really quick. When you’re not seeing the shortlink, is it before you hit the publish button, or is it after the work has already been published? I ask because there has in fact been a somewhat recent change wherein the shortlink doesn’t get added to the post until after it has been published out (it doesn’t appear in the preview).

It’s before I publish the post, so I guess it’s due to this change. Does this mean the shortlink would be added automatically after whatever text I put in my publicize message? It seems weird not to have it pre-populated because having it there helps me see if I am under the 140 character Twitter limit on my message. Thanks for clarifying!

Yes, it’s supposed to, and in my tests it’s been behaving normally. Let me know if you run in to any issues though!
