Publicize to Facebook for a club
-
We have a WordPress.com blog for our genealogy club. I’m looking at ways to publicize to Facebook, so that club members can be notified of posts in their Facebook news feed. There are several choices but I don’t see an attractive one:
1) Make a Facebook “Page” for our club. Pages are primarily intended for use by businesses. There is no guarantee that posts to a page will show up in the timeline of someone who likes and follows the page. At one time, WordPress.com publicize did not work with pages; I don’t know if that’s still true.
2) Make a Facebook Group. But WordPress does not support publicizing to a group, so this won’t work.
3) Make a Facebook account for the club that’s like an individual account. Then publicize works. But the club account and the individual user have to be “Friends” on Facebook, which introduces a maintenance task. (Using an individual account in this way is also not something Facebook encourages.)
Publicize to Facebook works fine for one individual who has a blog and a personal Facebook account. For our club, though, I’m not seeing how to make it work.
Any ideas? Has anyone else solved this problem? Thanks

Hi there!
This is a great question and you’ve outlined the options well. I don’t have any awesome fix for you but a one thing to add to your considerations:
For option one, you can encourage all your members to not only “like” but also “follow” and even “get notifications” about your page. Following will greatly increase the likeliness that the posts show up on their feed and “get notifications” will cause them to get notifications for any posts and changes you make to your page.
For any of these options your members have control of how much they see from you. You can “unfollow” a friend and turn off notifications for a group. I’d probably do the page, since it’s less work for the user.
Kind regards,
Jason
