Publicize to Google Not Working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

There appears to be an issue with Google+ and publicize. I’ve followed the connect steps, as well as the reconnect steps, per WordPress’s help article. I’ve disconnected and reconnected several times and it’s still not posting to my Google+ profile. Posts to Twitter and Facebook work fine. Is there a known issue with Google+?

The issue is still happening. I’ve reconnected and it’s still not posting. Can I get some help with this?

  • Hi there,

Google is returning an error message when we try to post to them. When you reconnected, did you also remove WordPress from within your Google settings? If not, can you please try that for me?

If you share a post using the Google+ button on your posts, does that share the way it should?

Hi Kokkieh, removing WP from the Google settings is part of the article I mentioned. I performed that action twice with no effect. Even so, I performed that action again as requested and it’s still not working.

That said, if I use the Google share button on the post itself, it works fine. But I’m trying to get it where it will auto post so that I don’t have to do that.

Is that error global or just with my site? And do we know of when we’ll have a resolution?

  • I haven’t seen any other reports of this happening, so it appears to be specific to your site.

Are you connecting to a Google+ profile or to a page? Is the page publicly viewable or private?

And is this a new connection, or did you previously have a G+ connection that worked?

Hi Kokkieh, I’m connecting to a Google+ profile. It’s completely public and viewable. This is a new connection.

  • I tested and it’s working fine for me, so it looks like it’s something specific to your account. I’m going to ask a developer to take a look.

Please don’t reconnect Google+ again. I’m setting a follow up to check tomorrow after your next post published.

    Thanks, Kokkieh.

Hi, Kokkieh. I’m still experiencing the issue. Was the developer able to determine the cause?

  • I’ve been adjusting settings on your site to see if I can find how to replicate the problem, but I have to wait for your scheduled post to publish each time. Do I have your permission to publish a few test posts on your site? I’ll make sure they don’t get posted to Facebook or Twitter and can delete them again immediately. That might help us figure this out a little faster.

    Absolutely. Go for it, Kokkieh.

  • Thanks. I tried a few different things, but none of them worked, unfortunately.

Among other things, I connected my own Google+ account to your site, and when I published a test post it posted to my Google+ account, but for yours it still gave an error, so it looks like the problem is specific to your Google+ account rather than your site.

As such, it’s possible this is an issue on Google’s end, but let’s see what our developers say once they’ve had a chance to take a look. For now, please share those posts to Google+ manually using the sharing button on your site.

  • Is the email address for your Google+ account a regular Gmail address, i.e. @gmail.com, or did you create the account using your G Suite address?

If it’s using your G Suite address, then the problem is definitely on Google’s end and we’ve already reported it to them.

Ah! The profile is attached to my GSuite domain email provided by WordPress. I just checked the settings on it in the admin panel and everything appears to be okay with the Google+ app settings there but clearly something isn’t right.

Okay. It sounds like it’s a known issue then with GSuite accounts? Have they given an ETA on pushing a fix?

  • Thanks for confirming. This is a problem on Google’s end, specific to Google+ accounts connected to G Suite. Regular Gmail Google+ accounts work like they’re supposed to.

I don’t have an ETA, no, but our developers are working with Google to try and get this working as soon as they can.

    Thanks, Kokkieh.
