Publicize – Twitter problems

  • Unknown's avatar

I sign into my blog from two accounts – in essence, I am two different authors. I set both accounts to Publicize blog posts to Twitter. From both accounts, I can click on the “publicize” button and customize what I think is going to be the Tweet. But I find that, no matter what I do, only posts from one account are sent to Twitter. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The publicize feature only works at one blog at a time.

So you have to set one of your blogs to do it, while the other has to be manual.

@ebogue-What user roles do you have on your blog? http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

@dreamsburnred-can you please share the source of that information?

This is only one blog, just two authors on the same blog. Both authors (me from different accounts) have the role of Administrator (equal). Of course, one of these Admins was the original creator of the blog, but I haven’t heard that this would make a difference.

I just created 4 postings from the blog. The first two are from the Admin persona that created the blog, one completely automated and the other with an edited Tweet. They are named Ignore #1 and Ignore #2 and both came through on Twitter nearly instantly.

I logged out, then logged in with the 2nd persona and followed the same procedures for Ignore #3 and Ignore #4, neither of which came through to Twitter.

User names: edithosb (creator) and ebogue (added as admin)
    Twitter name: ebogue

Am going to go experiment a bit, but meanwhile

Note: For maximum flexibility, these connections between WordPress.com and our Publicize services are per blog and per user. If you have several blogs you want to connect, you’ll need to connect each one separately. For multi-author blogs, each user that wants to connect to a Publicize service will need to do so separately as well.

I have checked “Twitter” on each of the two accounts, and it continues to show up as checked. On each account, when I click on the “Publicize” button while writing a post, a link is showing that I can customize. However, for one account the link is never posted, whether customized or not customized.

I’m thinking that WordPress might presume that each sign-in is a separate person. Still, any group blog might well have separate individuals all wanting to post to the same (group) Twitter output.

Thank you ahead of time for any help with this – I really appreciate your time and effort.

Yes, WordPress will DEFINITELY assume two different sign-ins are two different people, and will treat them entirely separately. I think this setup is intrinsic to the Publicize tool.

Since I always have a Twitter window open, I simply post the link manually, which enables me to add some teaser text, which I find much more effective than anything automated. Twitter is frequently my #1 referrer, even over Google.

I have 2 blogs and now of them appear on my twitter :(

I already sign in and I’ve already check the box to twitter…and still…when I check my twitter…there’s sign of it.

    What’s wrong with it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Have you read the thread? And we will need the link to each blog, and the twitter account, starting with http.

I have and still confuse coz I have done evrything in here.

    This is my main blog
    http://bokunosekai.wordpress.com

    My second blog
    http://novroz.wordpress.com

I have just realize that I made a lot of mistake on my first post :(

    Now >> none
There’s sign of it >> There’s no sign of it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for verifying that the two sign-ins are two people.

Does WordPress assume that two people could not be wanting to use the same Twitter account for the outgoing posts? In a group blog situation, I can imagine wanting to have a single stream of tweets no matter which author blogged – and that’s the situation I’m looking for too: two separate accounts, both posting to the same Twitter account.

We volunteers don’t have mind reading abilities and we haven’t any idea what Staff think until they tell us. ;)

I feel for you. I don’t have this problem. I publish a post I have set up my friendfeed account to tweet it automatically.

More data: If I am signed in on the account that does not seem to be sending to Twitter, but use the option to choose as author the OTHER account name (ie, the author IS the name associated with the account that goes to Twitter) – the post still does not go to Twitter.

OK, after some experimenting, here’s what’s happened so far, and I apologize for the length of this:

While in Account A on WP.com (multi-author blog where I am Admin) and logged into my Twitter account, from the WP.com “My Blogs” page I authorized the Twitter account I would use to publicize posts. Following authorization I was returned to the WP.com “My Blogs” page where I received this message:

“You have successfully connected your WordPress.com blog with your Twitter account.

If there are multiple authors on this blog, each author will need to connect his or her own Twitter account separately as desired.”

Then on WP.com I logged out of Account A and logged in to Account B, where I am an Editor.

Still logged in on Twitter to the account where I want to publicize the multi-author blog, on WP.com on the Account B “My Blogs” page, I selected the multi-author blog and checked Publicize Twitter to authorize Twitter. This took me to the same authorization page on Twitter, but instead of the Allow/Deny buttons, now I received the message,

    “Woah there!

This page is no longer valid. It looks like someone already used the token information you provided. Please return to the site that sent you to this page and try again … it was probably an honest mistake.”

Authorization of Account B from the “My Blogs” page failed.

Still in Account B, I returned to the WP.com Dashboard on the multi-author blog to create a post. On the right side of the Post Editor, where the Publish box is, there was an additional link to authorize Twitter. I clicked on it, was taken to Twitter where the Allow/Deny buttons appeared; I Allowed and this time was redirected back to the “My Blogs” page of the Account B Dashboard with the following message.

“You have successfully connected your WordPress.com blog with your Twitter account.

If there are multiple authors on this blog, each author will need to connect his or her own Twitter account separately as desired.”

Still in Account B, I published the post I wrote and it was published to the same Twitter account as Account A.

So, it seems it is possible to use one Twitter account to publish more than one person on a multi-author blog, but of course on condition that the person has access (username/password) to that specific Twitter account in order to authorize it.

@ebogue, in your particular case, the only thing I can suggest at this point is removing from the “My Blogs” the authorization to publicize from the account that is not showing up in Twitter, log out of WP.com, clear cookies, log in again and reauthorize.

Oh, and I will continue to experiment in the background. If anything interesting happens, I’ll post back here.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks so much for sorting this out – I will definitely work on it, now that you have clarified the path!

  • Unknown's avatar

Forgive me if this is not the place to post this.

For some reason, my stats no longer are showing any referrals from Twitter. I know people are clicking on my article from Tweets as I interact with those folks each day. Any reason why there are no referrals from Twitter? Anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks
