Publicize Twitter share count stopped working

  Hello,

  About a week ago the Twitter share counter on the PatentTranslator blog has stopped working. It isn’t stuck on a specific number nor displays 0, there is just no counter. This seem to affect all the blog posts. (For example, here is a recent post).
  The blog is using the Publicize sharing buttons. The sharing itself and all the other counters seem to work fine — it is just the Twitter counter that is not showing/updating.

  Things that were tried:

  1) Waiting for a week or so, assuming this might be a temporary problem on Twitter’s end (which may still be the case). But nothing has changed during that time.

  2) Changing the appearance of the sharing button from Text+Icon to Official buttons. Unfortunately, this didn’t help.

  3) Testing the problem using various browsers (Chrome, FF, IE, Edge, Opera 12.3) after cleaning the cache and with no ad/script blocking to rule out any local problems. In all tests the result was the same. The Twitter counter didn’t show.

  I’d appreciate any input or advice.

  Twitter removed counts as a part of their updated API. This affected all websites that were using it, not just WordPressdotcom sites.

  I see.
  I suspected it has something to do with Twitter’s API, but missed that announcement.
