Publicize via Facebook: an issue

I’m unhappy with the fact that I can’t select to publicize my blog on Facebook without also allowing WordPress to login and manage any of my pages on Facebook. I see this as a breach of privacy and an unnecessary requirement for this feature. I was unable to find a support email to contact WordPress staff directly. Unless this issue is resolved, I will not use any of the publicize features on WordPress and instead will manage my own blog publicity manually.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every time Facebook makes a change issues arise. You can use Networked Blogs http://www.networkedblogs.com/ or RSS Grafitti http://www.facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti for posting to Facebook walls if you prefer.

RSS Graffiti periodically checks the RSS/Atom feeds that you specify and posts any new entries it finds to the Facebook Walls that you specify. You can get any feed written on any wall (Facebook Profiles, Fan Pages, Groups, Events and Application Profile Pages). In fact, multiple feeds to multiple walls. You choose the combination.

If you wish you can also use the generator to create a “grab my button” code for your friends to use, and place it in your sidebar in a text widget. See here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/04/16/grab-my-button-code-generator-and-tutorials/

I’m so sorry I copied and pasted from a post with many forum questions answers in it. That last paragraph above ought not to be there at all. :( The rest is accurate.

  • The only portion of this access we use is described under Facebook’s unfortunately scary heading:

“WordPress.com may login as one of your Pages.”

This is required for us to Publicize to a Facebook page attached to your account,t if you set it as such. Otherwise, we don’t use anything else under the “Manage your Pages” section.
