Publicizing

Just finished a book on the subject of meaning which is sometimes controversial. I’m writing under a pseudonym so as to discourage ad-homenim arguments and create autonomy. How might one best promote a blog related thereto outside of personal contacts?
    Tnx!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Albert! One of the best ways I’ve found to promote my blog is to find special interest groups related to the topic, whether it’s on social media, forums, other blogs, or content sharing sites like Reddit, and engage in some conversations or leave comments there with a link to your blog in your profile, or sometimes go so far as to sharing a link in a conversation or comments directly to a blog post(s) of yours that they might enjoy. You’ll want to do it in a way that doesn’t appear spammy and overly self-promoting, and instead offer that you might be able to contribute something meaningful to a current conversation, or start a new one.

When I write a blog with tips for “x” topic about traveling, I’ll head to a Facebook group that contains many other travelers like myself, share my recent blog, and ask if I’ve forgotten any tips and offer that it might help someone. Nobody likes a shameless self promoter, so it’s important to make it about how you can help someone else or somehow enrich their life, and they’ll very likely become a blog follower and share it with others. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks Kristin, in other words, do what you just did for me!

  • Haha – yep! I don’t even think about it consciously anymore, it just feels natural to use my experience and blog to help others when I can. Conversation and community is definitely the way to go with growing a blog following when there’s so much content already floating around out there. Put lots of passion into it and you’ll attract others who are equally passionate, but be open to receiving feedback and learning from it too. We now have a circle of blogger friends who share our content with their followers regularly, and we do the same for them. Sometimes we interview each other or guest post on one another’s blogs. It becomes a tight knit group of friends quickly and I’ve even met lots of them in real life now. Best of luck with your blog and book! :-)
