Publicly previewing a private post
-
How can I privately publish a post, so specific people can use the link but it doesn’t appear on my main page to general readers?
I know I can privately publish, but then the link doesn’t work for other users. I can also set a password, but I don’t like it displaying to users who don’t have the password.
This would be similar to Soundcloud’s “share privately” feature, where you can send a link to users who can preview your track, without everyone else seeing it on your main page.
Please and thanks :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
That’s a tough one. There isn’t really an option to publish something privately so that the link only works for select users and the post is also hidden from the home page. As you mentioned, private posts are only available to blog editors and administrators so the users would need to be added to your individual blog. Password protected posts appear on the home page of your blog so that doesn’t really fit what you’re looking for.
Honestly, the best option would be to publish the information as a page Instead of publishing the information as a “post”. The caveat here would be that you would setup a custom menu first following the instructions here:
Then, you would publish the page as password protected:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/
Since the page would not be in your custom menu, it wouldn’t show up by default on your site. Then, you would just send the URL of the page to the group that you would like to give access along with the password. The main downside is this isn’t the best option if you’re going to be doing this type of publishing frequently.
Would that work for what you’re looking for?
