Publish: "Are You Sure?" Warning
-
May I suggest adding an “Are you sure?” prompt when one presses Publish on a new post. I always *intend* to write posts in advance for future publication, but occasionally hit ‘Publish’ by mistake and… boom! No going back, out it goes. An “Are You Sure?” would be a life-saver for me (and others?) in our idiot moments. Thank you.

That chronic prompting would drive me right up the wall so no I do not agree with that addition.

Really? It would only be one time, as you hit the Publish button, so it would seem to be a one-extra-prompt tradeoff for a margin of safety. If you’re pre-publishing posts, it would be useful; perhaps less so if you’re not I suppose. But, that’s just me… Thanks.

I have blogged here for nearly 10 years and I would dislike having that prompt appearing. There is no safety issue involved that I can discern. Publishing a post does not compromise the security on any site. If you publish a post rather than clicking save draft, then you edit and change the status back to draft.

BTW did you know that you are using a very old retired theme that does not support all wordpress.com features? The recommendation is to switch to a newer responsive theme like one of these https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/two-columns+responsive-layout/?sort=free
Switching themes is easy to do and free of charge too. :)
Here are the free themes with the featured header images feature https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/featured-image-header/?sort=free
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.
Note that every theme will have a detailed theme description page with set up instructions and a live demo site page that you can consult. Here’s an example:

Thanks for the comment… But if you accidentally hit Publish, isn’t it too late then? I did this today on a New Year’s post (yeah, guilty as charged), and while I later quickly changed the status, it was already too late — all ‘subscribers’ got the errant post. Anyways, I appreciate your input… and will check out the other idea you just sent re: themes. Thank you timethief.

May I add something about responsive ie. state of the art themes? Do not enable “mobile” on any responsive theme. A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.
The mobile theme is a completely different theme. When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme Go to > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme
