Publish date of draft posts
-
WP friends,
I’m used to save some ideas to draft post and rework them at a leter stage. Since a while when I rework on those and publish the publishing date remains the one of when I saved the 1st draft. The post is correctly sent to twitter/facebook but it does not appear at the top of my blog page ?
Any clues ?
Thanks a lot

This is normal, but I understand why it can be confusing.
You saved your draft and decided to publish it later. However, the date on the draft does not change automatically to today’s date. And your home page displays posts in the order they are dated, not in the order they are published.
For now, if you want those posts to show up on the front page, set them as sticky.

I don’t recommend changing the date, because that will change the address, and changing the address can cause your visitors to be confused or land on a “file not found” page.So next time, change the date before publishing the draft.

You know, I think this might be a bug. I’ve done draft posts and then not finished them for a month, and when I publish them, they publish and are dated on the date and time that I publish them and they appear at the top of the posts.

Thanks for the input, TSP. On my end, my experience with drafts was the same as maurozz, which is why I assumed that’s the way it works. It would be interesting to know from staff if it’s a bug indeed.

Yeah, for me the post has always dated when I hit the publish button, not when I first started the post, and if you think about that, that is the way it should be. At least that is what I think.

I think have ran across the Draft date was saved and not the date I hit Publish a time or three.
I think I was using Windows Live Writer then moved a Draft to my site then fine tuned it before publishing and I think the draft date / time was the one that was saved not the date / time that I hit publish –

I’m thinking that if you are using Live Writer, then it does the same thing as if you edit the publish date online.
If you edit the publish date and time before publishing a draft, then the draft will be published according to your edited date and time.
But if you don’t edit the date/time, it will publish as current.
