  • Hi folks, can you double check to be sure your computer time is correct and that your site is set up within the correct timezone?

You can get their through WP-Admin > Settings

If you’ve double checked that and your posts still won’t publish now, can you let me know how far out they’re being scheduled? We’ll take a look.

I don’t see an option for Settings under WP-Admin. I can only find “Account Settings” and I don’t see any way to manipulate the timezone there. This is probably the issue, however, because I am in Europe and in a different timezone.

Could you please tell me how to make my post publish immediately

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks Timethief. My publish window doesn’t look like yours. I don’t see an edit option (and cant attach a screengrab here?).
I’m on a mac (mini running 10.9.5) using Chrome.
Supernovia: My time is set up as Apple Europe (currently on BST). My wordpress scheduled time says UTC+0 – I think maybe that’s an hour out? Is that why it won’t ‘publish NOW’? If that’s the problem, how do I change that (on a mac)?

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay I finally found it under General Settings but not through WP Admin. I was able to go in and change the timezone to Los Angeles, but it still said “scheduled”, in this case for 11:42 so I manually set the clock back nine hours (the time difference between LA and where I am) and it did finally publish.

But why is this “scheduling” happening? What is vague about “Publish Immediately”?

i changed my timezone yesterday, and then I was able to publish immediately. I got help from the chat-support.
but NOW AGAIN (!!!!!!) today It goes straight to scheduled.
Is it that damn hard to get a post published immediately?? i’m going crazy!

  • Unknown's avatar

and now it won’t publish AT ALL – even not at the scheduled time!

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, so I’ve just updated my WP time to UTC+1 and clicked publish on my latest post and it worked. I’ll see what happens at the end of the month when our clocks go back to GMT. I might just have to go back in and change it back but it seems to have fixed my problem.

  • It looks like most of you have got this now.

@idasateroy , what time zone did you use, and what time zone are you in?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I changed it from Utc0 to utc+2.
    So the timezone it OK.
It worked the same day as I changed the timezone, but the day after I had the same problem again – went straight to scheduled..

And it wouldnt even publish when scheduled either.

    Why won’t it publish immediately?

The only way I’ve been able to publish anything now, is to copy the entire entry(which was scheduled) into a new post, and then press publish – then it’s published right away (if I’m lucky that is!)

@supernovia I appreciate your finally taking mercy on us and attending to this issue but wouldn’t say I’ve “got this” by any means. I am hoping that it is a function of being out of my usual time zone and that when I return things will go back to normal.

But the real question is why, when you hit the “Publish Immediately”, does that somehow get interpreted by WordPress as “Publish Sometime in the Future or Maybe Not at All”? Those of us impacted are having to do a lot of tinkering just to get our posts to publish, and I, for one, am rethinking whether I should bother to renew the premium features for a blog that I can’t seem to reliably publish.

  • @polloplayer I don’t know why it’s not Publishing Now. I have not been able to duplicate this here. I’m asking you to check these possible causes. If one of the fixes takes care of the issue for you, fantastic: that may help me duplicate the issue here, too, and for you it will be solved in the meantime.

If not, I’ll keep troubleshooting so long as you can be patient with us in figuring out what’s wrong. So to clarify, right now, for you (now that you have adjusted the time) when you click publish now does it publish now?

  • @idasateroy to clarify what’s happening on your end, when you create a new ticket does the right time appear? Are you editing old drafts that don’t get scheduled properly? Any more information you can provide would help a bunch. Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

@supernovia thanks for replying. It did not “publish now” for me until I went into the system and worked on changing the clock. I will be back in the US soon and will see if the posting issue resolves then. It has never been a problem in different time zones until the last two weeks so I don’t know if it is because I have been in Europe or if there is something going on with WordPress.

I really don’t want to have to tinker with the clock every time I try to publish a post so I hope it will self-correct when I am back in the states.

    Thanks!

    The right time appears.
Editing drafts does not work. It still goes to scheduled, and won’t publish at the time it says its scheduled to either. No matter how many times i try to Edit.

The only way I can publish anything is to copy EVERYTHING into a new post, and press publish – then it gets published immediately.

But I have to press publish right away after Ive copied into a new post, or else it’s the same problems again.
