published, finished post reverted to first draft

Last night I posted a blog entitled: ”I can’t be non-monogamous because I get too jealous’ — basically everyone’ on the site anarkiah.wordpress.com
I was contacted about this post in the morning by someone who’d read it, and so I went to re-read. It wasn’t on the page. Instead I found the very first draft in my drafts folder. The completed draft is nowhere.
Had I saved it only locally by accident, no one would have been able to read it.
Where has my finished, published post gone?

  • Hi –

I’ve located the draft post as well. Is that the completed work? Or is it missing some content?

Take a look at the post revisions here:

That’s the first draft. It’s missing pretty much everything. The final title was “‘I can’t be non-monogamous because I get too jealous’ – basically everyone” and there was a lot more content. How could some one elsewhere have read this? I’m so confused.

Then I followed the revision thread and there it was. Thank you!

Any idea as to why it would have reverted back? Particularly after being viewed by others? I would like to prevent this happening in the future.

  • @anarkiah I’m not sure how that could have happened. Do you open the editor for the post in multiple browser windows or apps?

Yes, during editing. However the final piece was fully posted, those with subscriptions to my page received it via email, and then over several hours the published post disappeared from my site and reverted to a really early draft only viewable by me.
Perhaps I will just save my writing elsewhere from now on, in addition to here on wordpress.

Thanks — if you had the same post open in multiple tabs or browsers, there’s a chance one version could have auto saved over the other. Can you confirm whether you had multiple tabs/browser open?

Also, which browser and operating system you are using? Both pieces of information can be found on supportdetails.com — I’ll pass this on to our developers so they can take a closer look.

Y’all are right! Thanks for the assistance. It definitely was a multiple browser issue. I found the early draft in an open window on another device. I won’t make that mistake again!

Thanks so much for your attentiveness on this issue.

  • Thank you for confirming, @anarkiah! Cheers :)
