Published pages not viewable

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a few pages that are not visible on my blog. They are published, private, and dated correctly, yet they aren’t visible to those that view my blog. In admin state, I can see them, they exist, they appear to be correct yet no one can see them, including me when I don’t login as the admin. Very puzzled. Help please.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As you blog visibility is private and the pages are also private I suggest you contact Staff directly. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

A private page/post means precisely a page/post no one can see except you when logged in, so why are you puzzled?

I am puzzled because all my pages are private, yet I cannot see all of them. I see 3 out of six pages that are all published the same way. FFS… I’m not an idiot, but thanks for the information.

Now I am puzzled! In your original post you seemed to say that you can view your pages when logged in but not when logged out (which is perfectly normal), now you’re saying you can see half of them. When? logged in or logged out? And where? top menu or sidebar or if you click to view the actual page?

  • Unknown's avatar

Not just you, Pana. Me to. The original post says “others can not see” when viewing. As far as I know they shouldn’t be able to??

I’ll try to be little clearer. When I login as the admin, all pages that I have published exist. I can see them, view them, edit them as an admin via the dashboard (I think that is what it is called, new user here). All pages are private and published. I have changed the date to accurately reflect the days activity. Other than that they are very simple two or three paragraphs per page.

When I login as “joe user”, only some of the private pages are visible to me, not all. My issue is, all the pages are the same as far as security, privacy, and published status is concerned.

Users that I have invited to see my blog also cannot see all the pages that have been published. That is my issue, and my problem.

Hope this makes it more clear. Thanks for any assistance.

You’re welcome. But you’re still not being clear enough:

When I login as “joe user”, only some of the private pages are visible to me, not all.

Where? top menu, sidebar, actual page, dashboard?

As timethief has already said, we volunteers cannot really help with a problem we cannot see, especially when we don’t get an accurate description. You should either temporarily switch your privacy settings to the middle option, or contact staff. Staff can access a private blog (as well as your dashboard) while we cannot. On the other hand, staff take a lot longer to reply.

Well I figured out what is happening. Being a new user I don’t know the difference between posts and pages. It seems I have created both. Posts those I’ve invited to my blog can see …. pages they cannot.

I apologize for the confusion. Now I just need to read a little more to understand the difference between pages and posts.

This support entry will be helpful > posts vs pages If you wish you can read more here on the distinction between the two and choosing to either retain conventional (post based) blog structure or choosing page based structure (website). > Better Blogging at WordPress.com: Pages and Posts

Thanks to you all that have tried to reslove my issue. As you know by now, it was my ignorance all along.
