Published photos won't open in another window when clicked on
-
Hi –
It’s been awhile since I published a post and I noticed with a recent one, whenever I click on any of the photos, they don’t open in another screen in an enlarged size.I can do this with most of my other posts.
Has something changed since I last posted?
The post I’m having problems with is:
Problem post? When I click on any of the photos, nothing happens (view post).
Here is an example where you “can” click on the photo. It will open in another screen and is larger.
*All images are jpeg
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you want the full size version of an image to open when clicked, you need to link that image when you insert it.
In the post editor, insert an image and then click on it, or click on an image you’ve inserted before. Then click the Link icon in the editor toolbar. The little pop-up window that appears should contain the link to the image file. Add the link and update the post, and it should now work if you click the image in the published version of the post.
The WP-Admin editor does this automatically based on the last setting you used, but the My Sites editor requires you to link the image each time at the moment.

Hi kokkieh,
I went into the published post, clicked on the first photo, then clicked on “Insert/edit link” and then hit apply (an arrrow pointing down and to the left), and then clicked on apply.
The picture does open on it’s own now. Is that correct?
Would I have to do that for each picture in my posts, or is there an easier way?
I don’t remember having to do that step before? Thanks!

That’s exactly what you need to do, yes.
Previously you likely used the editor in the WP-Admin dashboard, here:
http://cravingthis.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
That editor remembers the option you used the last time, and applies it automatically from there. The editor under My Sites doesn’t do that, though it is on our list of future enhancements.

That explains everything. I do prefer to work in WP-Admin mode. It’s going to be a lot of work to go back in and click on each photo to edit them. It must have happened like you said when the new editor was available and I tried working in it, and then switched back.
Another question, the majority of my images are named: DSC_0442 for example. If a viewer clicks on an image, it will appear larger, but also with the name. I don’t have time to rename all my photos.
Just wondering from your opinion, should I just leave the photos as they are.
Appreciate your time!

Renaming photos has an SEO advantage – images are more likely to come up in searches if they have a descriptive title, which in turn can then drive traffic back to your site.
Personally I wouldn’t go to the trouble for photos already in your library, though. I once did that on my site, and it really wasn’t worth the effort it took. Nowadays I rename my photos as part of optimizing them before uploading, though, and I set an Alt Text when I upload them as well. If you make that part of your regular flow it becomes way less effort.
