published version doesn't match edited version

    Having more trouble with one of my blogs now. The first word of a poem is just not registering on the actual page – in preview or when published. It’s on the editor version and has been saved as a draft, updated once published, etc. but isn’t appearing on the actual blog post page. It does appear in email alerts about the post, however.

    I’ve tried stripping the whole line out and reinserting it and doing the same with the word. It’s never disappeared from the edited version. Also looked at it in html and can’t see anything awry.

    The blog site is https://bashfulbadger.wordpress.com/
    and the post is https://bashfulbadger.wordpress.com/2015/04/23/stray/

    and the first line should be

    ‘we play with stray mongrels’

    but it’s coming out as just

    ‘play with stray mongrels’.

    Anyone else having similar problems? Or know what the problem might be?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Are you using the new Beep Beep Boop Editor? If so, have you tried using the classic editor instead?

    Although you cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor you do not have to use it. For locating all the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

    The word is there, it’s just to the right of the picture of the dog rather than being in line with the rest of your text.

    Try setting your image to “unaligned” to see if that helps. I’ve had my images pull words off to the side like that on occasion when they were not unaligned.

    @brianmhall
    Good spotting.

    @bashfulbadger

    See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment

    The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it.

    Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.

    Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.

    Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).

    If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

    re: side by side images and text
    To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the Text (HTML) editor after each image/text pair:
    <div style="clear:both;"></div>

    Thanks, guys. My sister spotted the errant word. We centred the picture and then got it back. Ah, I will stop using the text alignment icons for the pics.

    But another quick question. It may the theme I’m using but each time I set a featured image for a blog post (apart from a couple of exceptions), the header image is replaced with the new featured image. Which I don’t want. So change it back.

    Is that right? And how come it worked a couple of times?

    I’m not sure about the theme you’re using, but I know that’s how it works with the theme I use; the featured image is always a replacement for the main header image for that specific post or page. It won’t change the header on the home page when the post is the newest one, but if you click on the post to go to it’s own page, the header changes to the featured image.

    Thanks, Brian. I’m using the Chateau theme for that blog. It’s just odd that a couple of times I was able to set an image that didn’t replace the header image. For another blog with the Selecta theme, featured images never affect the header image. I’ll check it next time to see if it affects the home page. Cheers.
