I was able to successfully log into my account and I immediately started writing but I am unable to save any drafts, view any previews or publish anything. Do you think you could explain why?

What’s the title of the post or page you’re working on? I’m happy to see if it is saved as a draft.
There is an auto save feature on WordPress.com. Every few seconds what you’ve created is saved. It will stay in draft mode unless you publish it then.
It sounds like something isn’t quite right though. Do you see an error message?
I’d also try clearing your browser cache:

I had written a long post and when I hit save the draft and returned to my site a few minutes later it was gone. -
