Hi there,
Sure, you can launch your site with the Subdomain name. Have you verified your email from WordPress.com sent you? If you didn’t receive it, please check your spam folder.
If you have verified your email, you can launch your site from My Sites>Settings>General>Privacy and change it from Private to Public. Remember to save your changes.

Hello, I have verified my email from WordPress.com. When I try to launch the site, it’s telling me to choose a domain name and to pay. I would not like to spend money on the WordPress blog as it is for school.

When you type in your desired free, site address, do you get free subdomains returned from the search feature? Example:
Or maybe you already check-out a domain name, you may want to check your cart and remove it, and it will stop prompting you to complete your purchase.

Hi there, no you do not have to buy a domain to launch a website on WordPressdotcom, although that does have some advantages in the long run.
You can skip the “Register a custom domain” step in the checklist by clicking the circle to check it off the list.

When I try to launch the site, it’s telling me to choose a domain name and to pay.
Can you tell me exactly what process you’re trying to follow to launch the site? I’ve not heard of anyone else seeing such a message when launching a site, and that definitely should not happen.
I do not get subdomains on the search feature. How do I check my cart to remove it?
Their is nothing in your cart, and I don’t see anything else that would prevent you from launching your site. Did you try to launch it by clicking the Launch Site button at https://wordpress.com/settings/general/nyxtendo.wordpress.com?
The screen shot @pdrw07 provided above is when you’re selecting the address for a new site. You’ve already done that – your free address is nyxtendo.wordpress.com – and it is not relevant to the issue of launching your site so it’s public.

@justjennifer – It’s a suggestion. You can skip it and launch a site without a custom domain.

Hey! Thank you for all your help. It kept asking me to buy a domain and I didn’t find or knew the existence of the skip button until now. I got it launched now. Thank you so much!
