Paying for an upgrade has nothing whatsoever to do with not being able to publish a post or a page for that matter. The issue you have is no way linked to your upgrade(s).

Please edit the post or page and check the visibility settings:
    Posts: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/

    Pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/edit-pages-screen/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/

They must be public pages or posts – not private.
Public – The page/post will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page/post is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page/post.
Private – Pages/posts are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages/posts are not visible in Topic Surfer, feeds, or in any search. A page/post can be private without being password protected.

I checked both posts and pages. Both were already set on public. I think there is something more ominous going on here. The site seems like it is locked down for some reason. I lost another blog this morning simply by hitting the publish button. It simply vashished.

Did you check the visibility setting on the exact post that you cannot publish?
What is the title of that post please?

Which browser and version of it are you using? If you don’t know please click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

You may be able to recover an earlier Post Revision. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/ Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post.

If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.

If you cannot locate the post by using the instructions I provided for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

    Advice:
When you start a new post, add the title, set it to private and then publish it. When you are done with the post, set it back to publish and update it. The problem with posts disappearing when saved as a draft has been around for a while, but only seems to hit a small number of people randomly.

The other choice is to get and use an offline blog client such as Windows Live Writer (Windows) or Ecto (Mac) and then everything is saved on your computer and when you are done with the post, you actually publish it directly from the blog client software. See here for offline blog editors so you don’t have to go through this again http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

P.S. I just thought of something else re: the post that will not publish. Please edit the post http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ and then check the date stamp on it. See the 2nd image here as a guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/schedule-a-post/

I guess I’m in over my head. I have published 19 blogs with no problems. Suddenly my pages looked different. For example I totally lost the SAVE button. I have written the 20th blog three times and lost it three times. I have printed down your suggestions but don’t know enough yet to understand what I need to try. Coincidentally, I am sceduled to take a class starting on the 16th. It will be hands-on with a computer. I think I will be able to get direct help with all this.

I am using Internet Explorer 9. I downloaded it AFTER I started having problems. It did not help. I have printed down your suggestions and will try to deal with it tomorrow, Monday. But, to tell you the truth, I am thoroughly bummed on the blog right now. I am an author. I am in the middle of publishing my fourth novel and well underway with the fifth. After typing up a post three seperate times and watching it vanish, I’m about ready to forget the whole thing, even though I was really getting into it.

The name of the missing post was Dogs. I erased the revisions as there was only one or two sentences at that point I wrote only that much expecting the worse and then published. Then I went in to “edit.” It took so I continued on and wrote the whole thing over for the third time as best I could frommemory. I pushed Publish again and it was gone!

I guess I will try Google Chrome and see what happens. Thanks for listening! Your effort on my behalf is very much appreciated. Thanks to you I no longer want to bite nails in two or go look for a bar fight!

I have printed it all down. Will try today. Thanks. By the way, why do I get the sense that World Press is a crap shoot? The damn dice sure fall where they may….
