Publishing a Draft to Site, doesn't match the date

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello
I have several draft pages that I am working on at the same time. When I am ready to publish them to my website, the publish date is 2 weeks back. I think maybe it’s the date that I first started the page and saved it into drafts unpublished, but am not sure.

ie. I published How to Make Farmer’s Cheese Tvorog on the 4th of July 2015, and it says it was published 2 weeks ago. The same thing happened when I published Spice Cookies. It didn’t use the date I published, but moved it 2 weeks back, further down my posts.

Does anybody know how to change this? Is this a glitch? I want my pages to be published by the correct date that I publish them, not always being 2 weeks in the past.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am using the Apostrophe theme, and only noticed it on these 2 latest posts that are out of order.

    My website is http://petersfoodadventures.wordpress.com

    Thank you

Also when I look at my Latest Post Summary under Stats, It is showing the Spicy Perogy Pizza, even though I have published 2 other pages since then, it just doesn’t update.

    Thanks for any help.

    No ideas from anyone?
Could it really be true that if I have a draft that I have been working on for a year, people won’t be able to see it as my latest published post, but would have to search for it in my archives?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
At this point, I am going to copy and paste the draft into a brand new post, then publish it, but that can’t be the solution going forward.

    grateful for any thoughts….

    cheers

Pages do not have dates, only Posts do. That is because Pages are for static content that rarely changes. https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Prior to publishing any draft Pt check the date in the Publish module and edit it to reflect e correct date.

Thank you @timethief. I get pages and posts mixed up.
I see the pics you sent, thank you.
When I go to the publish module, the date is not the current date, but a date in the past, when i first started the post weeks prior. I can edit the date to reflect whatever date I want. I think its crazy that I would need to manually change the date every time I want to publish something to reflect the current date I am publishing it. I’m sure the default date should be the current date with he option to edit the date. I sure hope its a glitch, because I’m sure it didn’t do this for any other posts I posted before this.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for reporting this issue. We have had a few other reports of this happening, but so far we haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on our end or track down what’s going on.

Can you please walk me through the steps you take to create a new draft? A few details that would help in particular:

That additional information may help us figure out what’s going on so we can fix that for you. Thanks!

    Hi @rachelmcr,

I use the https://wordpress.com/post and never use the WP Admin Editor.
I go to https://wordpress.com/posts/petersfoodadventures.com and under Blog Posts click on Add. which takes me to your link above.

I never ever change the publish dates while working on the draft, or even touch them.

The date and time match the computer’s clock.

I will go in and often edit the draft several times, adding or deleting stuff, and always saving the draft. Then when I am ready, I just click on Publish. I also have multiple drafts of different topics saved in drafts. The most drafts I had at the same time was 5 drafts which were ready to be published, but still in draft mode.

I hope that helps! Thanks for looking into this further. Let me know if you have any further questions! :-)

Thanks, Peter! I’ll report all of those details to our team and we’ll keep investigating this to try to track down and resolve the issue.

For now, before you publish a post you can check the “Change Status” box: https://cloudup.com/ccyMn_uxeq5

If it says “Scheduled” like in that screenshot, you can select “Publish Immediately” before you publish the post to make sure it publishes with the current date and time. (That’s the equivalent of the WP Admin editor’s Publish module timethief mentioned earlier.)

    Hi Rachelmcr,
Thanks for your help. When I look at the change status box, it looks different from your screenshot. The Draft option is the one highlighted, and if I look at the scheduled option, that is showing a date in the past, now approx 1 month. (but this one is not the selected option).
I will select Scheduled and manually update the date in the scheduled to reflect today’s date and hopefully that will post it in the correct date.

Thanks for your follow up and hope this can be fixed to work like before.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for letting me know. Even if Draft is the option that’s highlighted there, you can choose the “Publish Immediately” option to make it publish immediately with the current date and time. (If you select that option and it still published with the wrong date, please let me know!)

    Hi @rachelmcr
Thanks for you help. Everything I do as normal, without changing anything I do, has now corrected itself, with regards to publishing dates. Don’t know why but am happy it works.
Im wondering if there is another problem with Apostrophe, as 2 out of my last 3 posts now don’t exist on google search. only 1 has shown up, with varying success. I have opened up a new topic, but an thinking they might be related? maybe something with the sitemap for the site, which I don’t have control over. Google doesn’t find these 2 posts, and Bing can only find a tag of the posts. My third post has published with no issues what so ever, including Google and Bing.
Would love your thoughts on this? The site isn’t set to private, again they were posts that I have been working on previously and were saved in Drafts before publishing. I followed the exact same process for everything when posting and saving, its just not working? I’m tempted to deleted and repost again, and I bet it would work just fine. Maybe something in the saving draft process? Im stuck and appreciate any thoughts.

    cheers
    peter
