Publishing a post and stuck in Draft
-
Every time I finish a post, I use the PUBLISH button. I get congratulated for publishing another post. I go back to my admin page and it says I have published a new post. But then if I check my “all posts” a little later I am told my post is a draft. I go to the the module where I can change the status from Draft to Published. I change the status from Draft to Publish. It says I am published. But when I check, my post is still a Draft. I have left the site alone for 24 hours and still find my latest post is a Draft. I find I have to chase this same loop several times before, indeed, my post is actually now published. What step am I missing??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there Doc Ellen! I notice one post, ” great blue heron strut,” currently listed as a Draft. Is this one of the articles with which you’re having difficulty? Please let me know so I can investigate the post.
If this happens again, please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below:
Then refresh your Posts → All Posts page and see if the issue is alleviated. If not, click Publish and see if the Post goes live immediately.
Finally, are you scheduling your Posts to publish, or are you doing so real-time?
Thanks so much. Looking forward to hearing back from you and getting to the bottom of this.

Yes, “great blue heron strut” is the latest of the posts with the Draft/Publish loop. Every Post has given me problems getting it from Draft to Publish.
I am not scheduling my Posts to publish, but doing the “real-time”. Or am I? I have wondered if part of the problem arises because I like to Preview. Preview gives me a look, and I use the Edit link on the Preview look to get back to the Post so I can Publish. I use the Edit, tell the Post to Publish, but it always goes to Draft. I use Quick Edit to get to the Status and change it from Draft to Publish. I get told I have published, but then the Draft status shows back up. And the loop begins.
I will try the clear cache and cookies while awaiting your reply.
THANKS! -
I cleared the cache. Still can’t get the Draft to change to Publish. Thought about doing the suggested “clear cookie” but the page describing how to do that said to really not do that unless there was a pass word issue; I did not clear the cookies. Still can’t get the Draft to change to Publish. Loaded a new post “great blue heron detail”. The web site says it was published 2 hours ago, but it is still in Draft and not showing up on my blog.
Now what do I do? -
Hi there! I see another draft “hover point.” Please do not publish it, but let me know when it is ready to publish. If it’s all right with you, I’d like to click Publish to see the process myself. It will help me better troubleshoot the issue if I can see it firsthand. Thanks very much. Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Ok, ThatRobin:
I will not push the publish button on “hover point”. I did try a couple of times to get “hover point” to Publish last night but as you can tell, I finally just left the post in the Draft mode. I will not try to upload another photo or try to publish anything else until you get back up with me. Do I need to be logged in or logged out when you try the Publish? I am at my computer for most of the rest of the day. Let me know what I can do at this end. I really appreciate you working on this problem! Doc ellen -
Hey Doc Ellen! It shouldn’t matter if you’re logged in or not, as long as you don’t open the draft of “hover point.”
Thanks for the permission to move forward. I’ll let you know how the testing goes!
-
Ok, good news/bad news: I was able to publish the post without any trouble at all. So, the good news is that “hover point” appears to be live. The bad news is that I need you to do a little homework for me :)
I would like you to take a few screenshots for me that depict your process. You can send me as many images as you think will walk me through how you Preview/Save/Publish, etc. Even the screen you see after you Publish would be helpful for me.
Here’s some helpful instruction on how to make a screenshot:
en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/Once you’ve snapped your images, you can upload them to your Media Library, like you would with any other images. Just let me know when there’s something I should look at. You can include any notes in your response that you feel would describe your images, if you think that would help.
We’ll get to the bottom of this! Thanks very much.

ThatRobin:
in my Media library there are 14 new items. The fourteenth item is a photo of a heron labeled “test for Word Press” – is image 7178. This is the start of the process from my export out of Aperture as I work through to a Publish in WordPress. The Media shots are in reverse chronological order, but I am sure you are aware of that! All of the png uploads follow the sequence with my cursor arrow at the activation of each step.
Hope this helps!

Hi Doc! I took a look at all your slides. They were incredibly helpful! Thanks!
I’m going to have you post in a slightly different manner. I think it’ll streamline your process and keep you from getting caught in Drafts.
I’d like you to try your next post directly from your Dashboard editor:
https://docellensjourney.wordpress.com/wp-admin/Click Post → Add New in the left hand column.
You will then see a screen that looks like this:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-screen/I’d like you to follow the instructions in the link above. When you are ready to add a new image to the post, you’ll click the Add Media button. It appears as if you’re pretty savvy when it comes to this part of the process, but here is the support page link, in case you’d like to confirm your work flow:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/uploading-images/#upload-images-from-your-computer-straight-into-a-post-or-pageOnce you’ve added your image(s), you can save your draft, preview, and publish as you wish.
The next time you’re ready to publish a new blog post, would you see this process through from beginning to end, using the instructions above? Let me know how it works for you! I’m looking forward to hearing the results. Thanks so much!

ThatRobyn: Yeah! I followed the path you laid out and ended up in the Publish lane and bypassed the dreaded Draft congestion. I have quickly added 3 new photos to my blog using your directions and all 3 went smooth as silk.
THANKS!
peace and grace,
