publishing with the new format
-
I recently asked for help on this score because I have not been able to figure out how to publish a post as soon as I’ve finished it. Once I’ve started to write, I invariably get a message at the top of the page telling me that I’m not allowed to update – even though I’m not updating. When I’m finished and click on ‘publish,’ I’m told that I’m not allowed to publish this post. When I try to schedule it, no matter what date and time of day I enter, I’m unable to publish for at least half an hour. I got a very detailed response to my first help request on this score from ‘macmanx’ but unfortunately, it was no help. The problem was that it assumed much more knowledge than I have.

Wordpress just switched me over to the new format for writing blog posts and then publishing it. I find it incredibly difficult to use, especially publishing my posts immediately. I’d like to revert back to the old format. If that’s possible, please tell me how that’s done. If not, how do I skip the scheduling feature for publishing so I can simply hit the publish button and it’s done immediately?

Hi there!
What’s the address of the site you’re working on?
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software, we won’t be able to help you out and you’ll want to seek help at these forums:

Can I return to the old editing/posting format? If not, how do I publish my posts right away, without having to bother setting a time? This new feature is incredibly annoying and difficult to figure out.

You can still switch to the classic editor when writing/editing posts/pages in your site’s Dashboard: https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/
With that said, we do recommend the new editor though, and we have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
We also have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
In the new editor, you’ll only need to set a time if you’re scheduling a post. The default is to post immediately.

Hi @rred82realitc, the message you’re describing sounds like your browser has forgotten you’ve logged in.
First, copy your post so you can ensure you won’t lose your content. Then, follow these steps:
1) Ensure you’re allowing our cookies: https://wordpress.com/support/third-party-cookies/#checking-your-browser
2) Log out, and log back in
3) Try creating your post again
Can you update us here in this thread to confirm whether that worked? Please follow up here rather than creating new threads. I’ll merge the older one into this one.

Thanks and that seems to have done the trick. But I’d suggest making these instructions much more explicit and easier to find. One more question: Is there a way to make sure that the posts appear in my preferred Times Roman typeface?

You’ll need to set the font following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/custom-fonts/
