Publshing only certain posts or categories to Facebook

  Is it possible with WordPress to link my blog to Facebook and set the link to publish only certain posts (that I mark) or certain categories (that can be configured) of posts to Facebook?

  In addition, I would like to post other posts or the same ones to other social networks.

  Hi James. While you are writing a new post, you can de-select the Publicize feature if you wish. Details here:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/

  In addition to Facebook, the Publicize feature supports other networks. If you wish to publish to a network not appearing on that one, you may have to check the support documentation or help section for that network or try using a third party. Raincoaster, an experienced volunteer here, has mentioned Networked Blogs in the past. I haven’t tried it yet but perhaps it would serve that purpose as well.

  Is there any way to turn publicize off by default? I have a couple of posts where I swear that I set them to “off,” but they published to Twitter anyway. I’m going to turn it off until I know that I can have it set up, but turned off by default.

  @jacksonwest: The blog linked to your username does not appear to be a WordPress blog. Are you referring by chance to jacksonwest.wordpress.com?

  Basically you want Publicize to Twitter to be available only when you want to? Hmm… If you deactivate the feature by going to Dashboard > My Blogs and removing the checkmark next to Twitter, I think the Publicize option when adding a new post simply vanishes.

  So unless another volunteer has a better idea, the easiest solution would be to no longer use Publicize and to tweet manually whenever you want. If you use the Sharing services and enable a Tweet button beneath each post, it makes it easier for you (and your visitors) to share the post on Twitter:

  One thing that is little-known but important is that posts pushed to Facebook via Publicize are less likely to appear in your Friends’ news feeds. Posts manually posted using the Share Buttons, etc, are more likely to appear there. That’s one reason I don’t use Publicize: another is that the way it cuts things off looks amateurish.
