If I want to purchase a domain what will happen to my old site? Will I lose my followers? Will I lose those I follow? All I want to do is to remove the wordpress.com by purchasing a domain. I don’t want to lose my audience. Thanks

In order to remove the .wordpress.com URL and replace that with a domain URL you have to purchase either a Premium upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ or a Business upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/. Both upgrades are renewable annually and you are billed annually for them.
