Purchase of a custom domain

  If I buy a custom domain, will people who visit the old address be redirected to the new one?

  For example, if I buy http://www.thephoblography.com and someone visits thephoblography.wordpress.com will they be redirected to the thephoblography.com site?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  The site remains the same. Adding a custom domain is just like adding another door to the same house. Both the old and new doors work.

  Oh I see so essentially there will be sort of two sites? If someone ‘likes’ or comments on one does that appear on the other…?

  There is only one site. The only difference is two different URLs go to the same site.
