Purchasing a domain caused my page rank to disappear

I had a wordpress.com account, and I went to my options and bought a domain name. It said that my google page rank will stay the same but it dropped from 4-0. Will it recover?

If you start as domain.wordpress.com and switch to your own domain with a wp.org install you will lose your Google juice for a few months and your Technorati rank will go back to zero. In time your Google page rank and your Technorati rank will recover. In between you need to promote your blog.

Oops! just cancel out these words above “with a wp.org install” and the rest still applies.

i didn’t switch to wp.org. i went to my options under my wordpress.com dashboard, and it said you can purchase a domain name for $15 which I did. It turned my blog.wordpress.com into user.com/

I do understand you. I just goofed on the first go round by including these extra words “with a wp.org install”.

If your blog is young it really won’t make a huge difference, your numbers will recover quickly.

i had my blog since february. the thing is.. not many people will change their blogrolls and they will still include the old link.. will my page rank recover.. even if not everyone updates their links?

Your pagerank will not “recover” ie the old pagerank will not be tranferred to the new URL. You have to build up the pagerank for that from scratch.
However, your old pagerank will still work with your blog; it’s just that it won’t work for your blog with the new domain name. Does that make sense? Essentially, it will have the same pulling power as before, but that is just credited to the old URL.

The only other option would be to keep your domain name, but put the main URL of your blog back to username.wordpress.com so you are using the old domain name again as the main domain! Not the best solution, but the only way to work “backwards”.

Surely this is an issue many bloggers face and Technorati should clean up its act, should it not? May be this is what we need to feedback to Technorati? Thanks.

Good luck. Literally, millions have tried and failed.
And the original issue was Google; from the Google perspective, your URL of choice does not actually matter: only that people are directed to the correct site.
