Purchasing a domain name.

    When I purchased my domain name, I was under the impression it would appear as such: nikkyatkinson.com

    But, it for some reason, appears as: nikkyatkinsondotcom.wordpress.com

    I’m very agitated. I would like some help on this topic as soon as possible since I’m paying money for this. Thank you to all responses in advance.

    No Domain Mapping Found

    There is no domain mapping upgrade for nikkyatkinson.com. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping.

    Domain Helper does not show any domain mapping but it must be slow this morning since your name is mapped to a WordPress.COM blog

    Okay, so nikkyatkinson.com does belong to me? I am confused as to what mapping means, and why I am seeing nikkyatkinsondotcom.wordpress.com?

    Lastly, I need help on how to install a wordpress theme I recently purchased. I tried looking up a tutorial online as to how to go about it, and it is telling me to go to Appearance > Themes. Then, it says at the top of the screen I should see options such as “Manage” and “Install” themes at the top of the page, but tis is where I hit a wall because I do not see those options at the top of the page. What should I do?

    Return it and get a refund because you cannot use any third party theme on any WordPress.COM hosted blog. The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like your blog are the themes found here http://wordpress.com/themes/

    There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
    upload any third party themes,
    create child themes,
    create our own themes,
    edit templates,
    create own own layouts,
    or use stylesheets from other themes.

    There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

    I’m confused, a friend of mine was able to do this. Should I transfer the domain to host gator in order to be able to upload and utilize the theme I purchased for my website?

    Yes, I can see that the domain “nikkyatkinson.com” does belong to you, but is associated with a WordPress.com blog with the address “nikkyatkinsondotcom1.wordpress.com”, not “nikkyatkinsondotcom.wordpress.com”. Would you like some help transferring it to “nikkyatkinsondotcom.wordpress.com”? Let me know!

    Should I transfer the domain to host gator in order to be able to upload and utilize the theme I purchased for my website?

    Uploading themes on WordPress.com isn’t possible due to the structure of our service. If you’d like this ability, then moving to a self-hosted WordPress.org site is your best bet. More info on that here:
