Purchasing A Domain Name Through WordPress

    Hi,

    There are a few questions I have in mind that needs clarification:

    1. If I do purchase it through WordPress, do you accept the payment through a debit card with Peso as the currency since I live in the Philippines?

    2. Why is “www” not included in the domain?

    3. If I do purchase the domain outside of WordPress, do I need to register the domain I purchased outside of WordPress every year?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there.

    1. If I do purchase it through WordPress, do you accept the payment through a debit card with Peso as the currency since I live in the Philippines?

    As long as cards issued in your country is supported by PayPal, and it’s one of the major card companies like Visa or Mastercard (or Visa electron/Maestro for debit cards) you can use it to buy here. All transactions are handled by PayPal, so they are really the ones you need to ask. See here for more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/

    2. Why is “www” not included in the domain?

    In short, because it’s no longer necessary. At a time URLs had to have that to work, but you don’t need it anymore and WordPress.com does not support it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#before-upgrading

    3. If I do purchase the domain outside of WordPress, do I need to register the domain I purchased outside of WordPress every year?

    Domain registrations need to be renewed every year BEFORE they expire. Letting it expire can lead to losing your domain or having to pay a fine to get it back. It works like this no matter where you register a domain, be it with WordPress.com or anyone else.

    If you buy your domain elsewhere, not only will you need to pay that company for the domain every year, but you’ll also have to pay WordPress.com every year for the Domain Mapping upgrade to connect that domain to your blog. https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    If you choose to buy your domain somewhere else and map it to WordPress.com it still won’t start with “www”.
