  If I was to pay for a plan and cancel it, will I only be charged for the months I have used the plan for?

  No, all WordPress.com plans should be paid for yearly, there is no monthly option available.

  However, if you purchase a plan and you’re not happy with it, you have the option of asking for a refund within 30 days. See more here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
