Purchasing a registered domain
-
The domain I’m seeking is registered as a WordPress account however it seems dormant. How do I contact the owner or WordPress to see whether the domain is available to be transferred?
ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The top level domain here is WordPress and all blogs hosted by WordPress are on .wordpress.com sub-domains.
There is no expiration date on blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting, then providing the are agreeable there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.
If you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Thanks so much for such a quick and detailed response. Can I ask a quick favour and get you to look at the domain to confirm it is a WordPress sub-domain? It’s http://www.thehappyhunter.com and whilst it comes up promoting WordPress it doesn’t seem to have any other reason for being! I can’t seem to add comments or contact either so I’m a bit stumped, so any further assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

http://thehappyhunter.com/ is indeed mapped to a WordPress.com site. We cannot help you with that; it belongs to whoever registered it.

Thanks auxclass, I’m new to this, how do I do a whois? thehappyhunter.com doesn’t have any CONTACT nor is there any information in ABOUT…It’s a phantom! Sorry to be a pain….but thanks in advance

He means look them up at https://www.whois.net/ which I did; they have Private Registration, which means you won’t be able to contact them. The domain expires in June, if you want to wait for it on the off-chance they let it go.

Even with Private Registration you should be able to contact them – there is an email contact down the page a bit – but someone will check things and they should forward on your request to the owner

Auxclass and raincoaster thank you very much for taking the time to respond with such consideration. It has been driving me crazy and I’ll follow your advice, hopefully with a bit of luck, to resolve this.
All the best and thanks again for your care and attention
