Purchasing Credits for Domain Mapping: Why?

Hi, I can’t seem to find anyone else asking this question, so I thought I would do so myself.
Why do I have to purchase credits in order to map a domain that I already own and thus already pay for?
I signed up to wordpress under the impression that it was free to use (assuming I don’t use any of the so-called ‘upgrades’). If I had already known that I would have to pay just to map my own domain name, I would have spent my money on building and hosting my own site elsewhere, free from the restrictions of wordpress.

You own the domain NAME, that’s all. Hosting a domain on a website is a different matter. Nowhere else to ask the questions??? There is a very good FAQ on this topic:

HI. I already completed the paypal transaction. Yet I still cant redirect to the new domain!
When i restart the steps, i came to the same page asking to pay 10 credits.
I cant be paying 10 credits each time right?The paypal transaction has been confirmed and i have the receipt in hand.
Please assist!

You’ll need to contact staff directly about that. The volunteers on the forum can’t help.

bubel..the same issue is happening to me…I paid the $10 for domain mapping, but each time I go back to the page it’s telling me I have 0 credits. Please help!
