put video in a sidebar

  I want this video to appear in my sidebar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81GJbP0z-Qk I’ve tried to put it in an image widget, but all that appears is a question mark. Is this possible to do?

  Hi there,

  You certainly can, as long as the sidebar is big enough (you might want to consider using a footer instead of a sidebar).

  You’ll need to use the Text widget and the Youtube shortcode. It will make your code look like this:

  [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81GJbP0z-Qk]

  I tried this, but I was hoping for a little “screen shot thing” that looks like the video is embedded. Now I just have the code and it doesn’t even link to the video. Is it because the sidebar isn’t big enough?

  Heya,

  With Youtube videos embedded in sidebars, they will usually end up not looking as good, with you only being able to see a narrow strip of the video. It does not pare down quite small enough to fit into such small dimensions as the width of the sidebar.

  This is why we recommend you placing the video in a footer or header in a theme which allows for plenty of space for each!
