Put WordPress in root without index.php file
-
I want to install WordPress in the root of a site that already has a CMS system installed. So I do not want to upload the index file. I need to be 100% sure that I do not interupt the existing CMS system. I only need the interior pages to show.
My purpose in doing this is so that the WordPress pages will not be buried and will have a simple url such as: http://www.example.com/marysmith
instead of http://www.example.com/teachers/marysmithHas anyone done this before.

You need to seek support over at wordpress.org. Here a wordpress.com we ave a more controlled environment and do not download wordpress at all.
Check out the support forums at http://wordpress.org/support/.

You’ve reached support for the free sites hosted at WordPress.com. Your question is about a self-hosted installation of WordPress, available at WordPress.org. If you’re having problems with a site not hosted with WordPress.com, we may not be able to help. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
You can find support for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress here and here.
