Putting a shop on wordpress

I’m trying to create a store to purchase goods on this site under the free version, is this possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible.
WordPress.com doesn’t allow you to install plugins, which you’ll need to have in order to build what you want.
You’ll need to look into self-hosting WordPress. I wrote a guide about it on my blog that explains how to do that cheaply.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need help with.

Thanks so much for your reply, for a beginner its difficult to filter the information available. Would you recommend self hosting or using a site like shopify ( I just find the scope very limited there).
Thanks -
I know what you mean. There’s buzz-words flying all over the place. Self-hosting is out of most people’s comfort zones.
But same could be said for driving a car – Everything is difficult, until you do it, then it’s ‘easy’.
If you self-host, there’s a bit of a learning curve. The pay-off is absolutely worth it though. Your blog on wordpress.com might be your content, but you don’t technically own it. WordPress.com does. For this reason alone, I’d say that self-hosting is the way to go – You have complete ownership and control over your blog.
I’ve not had much experience with shopify, but it’s the same thing. You’re simply ‘renting’ a service from them, so you don’t have control.
I’ve heard many good things about Shopify, and it’s a beast. It has many options and you can customize it, but chances are you, you can’t tweak it to EXACTLY how you want it, because you don’t have that level of raw control.
Self-hosting gives you that control, to the point of being able to edit the raw code in .html and .php files, which is something not even the business wordpress.com account allows.
Hope that helps.
