Putting 'Tags' as a sidebar item

I have tried way too many times to put the Jetpack Tag Cloud widget as an item in the sidebar. What am I doing wrong? Why would the item not appear. Every other widget has worked flawlessly.

Thanks! at one time the word “Tags” appeared in my sidebar. I got the Tag Cloud widget, clicked save & publish. It appeared but disappeared and I have not been able to get the widget back! How do you expand the sidebar to see it? Can you still see it? Can it stay expanded? This is how little I know. I just know I can’t see it there. Thanks so much for your help. I have tried to add tags but since there was no place in the sidebar, they had no place to go.

I expanded the sidebar by clicking the “Menu & Widgets” button near the top right corner of your website. I could then scroll down to see Archives, Recent Posts, Comments, and Tags. It stays expanded until I click on the “Menu & Widgets” button again.
Right now you don’t have any comments or tags listed under those headings, but I expect you’ll see things in those areas of the sidebar once you get some on your site.
(There are other themes that keep the sidebar visible at all times. You might want to switch to one of those, at least while you’re trying to make sure the widgets work.) :)

I am really glad you responded! Now I really need your help. Did the blog you looked at have a bee in the header or just a half of a flower? By the way you describe it, it is the one with the flower and no bee. I did not even realize I had published that one! I was playing around with a new design but decided not to use it. I am sure there is a simple way to delete it. . .or just “unpublish it.” I wouldn’t mind keeping it and maybe just hiding it in case I use it in the future since it was so easy to set up. But the one with the bee is the one with the comments. And, the tag cloud widget that is invisible. :) If you google wounded joy it is the one that should come up first. Thanks for calling this to my attention! How do I hide it?

After i wrote my last reply to you, I once again tried to add the Tag Cloud to the sidebar under Pages. It will not show up and I cannot understand why. I added other widgets so easily!

I was looking at https://woundedjoy.wordpress.com/ and saw just half the flower. Is there a different URL/website that I should look at?
Do you have any posts with tags attached to them yet? If not, try creating one and adding a tag to see if that makes the tag cloud show up. If you look at my test site at https://bookgirlmntest.wordpress.com/ you can see how the tag cloud looks for me when I added some test posts/tags.

I published that one by mistake. The one I published that friends are reading has the bee and I can always pull it up with woundedjoy.com. Even though I think the one you are looking at is also called woundedjoy it never comes up in a google search or by typing in woundedjoy.com. I think I know how to hide the one with the flower. If I can remember correctly I can hide it without deleting it. If you can change sites, the correct one will be identified with a red and yellow logo.

I just made the one with the flower “Private” sh I should be the only one to see it. Hope that helps!

I just took a look at woundedjoy.com. As far as I can tell, your one post doesn’t have any tags attached to it. Can you try adding one or two tags to it and then see if the widget shows up? (I just tried this on one of my self-hosted blogs. The tag cloud widget did not show in my sidebar until I added a post with a tag.)

Your patience has been remarkable!! I double, triple checked to see that I had added tags. I had. As I scoured the page to see what I could have done wrong and my eyes land on the save button. . .Yep! I had failed to save it. Everything appeared in my sidebar perfectly. I am so sorry.
I know this is going to be my fault too.But, if you have the patience could you help me with the click this button? I have tried to add it from the word Bookmarks at the top of the page and from the right hand menu. I am using a Mac Air. If I try to drag it to the drop down menu it will not attach. If I right click (2 finger click on the Mac) a box comes up with choices, none of which concern the bookmarks. Should I actually have a BAR under my search bar or somewhere to drag and drop it to? -
OK here I go again when the page was looking so good. First let me praise your patience and kindness to me. I hope I can stop the craziness soon. This morning right above the header picture it says NEW ITEM. No idea what I could have done. none. I don’t wnat anything there. Also the tags in the sidebar is great but tags also appear at the end of the blog where social medial icons are. If you click on it it show the tags above the title of the blog in large bod green letters!! I am baffled. Can we get rid of that? Thanks!! Jackie

Ok, I got rid of “New Item” i clicked remove and it disappeared I clicked save. then I refreshed my page and the words HOME and ABOUT ME AND MY BLOG appeared there. I happy to let it go and forget about it. But the tags thing is a pain.

I think that’s just a page heading, to show that all posts below it have that particular tag attached to them. I don’t know if you can change the color easily; you’d just need to poke around in your theme settings.
If the tags are causing too much trouble, it’s perfectly OK to not use them. I actually only use “categories” on my blog and not tags. :)
For the “Press This” bookmarklet, you need to drag it into your bookmark bar. I don’t know which browser you’re using, but here are the instructions for how to make the bar show in Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95745?hl=en

Thank you for the link for using the chrome browser. That’s what I use. I have been sick today and sleeping a lot so I have not tried it yet. I appreciate you sending it and I will give it a go!!
