Q about Pilcrow display width

  I’m loving this theme, it is so perfect for my needs, best one I’ve run across yet. But, I am a little confused about the widest display width option. As a photographer I always use the no-sidebar option. The docs say 990 as the widest width you can get, but would I be safe in going with an image that wide? I understand that there are lots of variables on many themes, you can’t just go posting your images as wide as you like. I want to be sure I don’t cut off parts of an image or a preview image (linking to a larger version).
