Q: WordPress Plans | PlugIns
-
I’ve used WIX for past 18-months; currently converting to WordPress.com. Anticipating moving to WordPress.org in 1-2 years as I get up to speed. Ported my 60+ blog posts from WIX to WordPress; got the new formatting cleaned-up. I own my domain (www.garthmonroe.com) and will port it over to WP after March 15th. I was planning on subscribing for the Premium plan, and was disappointed to learn that I can’t install any PlugIns unless I get the Business Plan, which isn’t the price point that I wanted. In particular, wanted to launch ‘contact me,’ ‘subscribe to my blog’ or RSS feed, privacy policy, etc. I don’t really have the skills (yet) to do manual coding myself. Really don’t want the expense of paying someone to do this for me. So just trying to understand the best way to move forward. I’ve been doing Google searches and watching YouTube videos, and it really appears that options are limited or more expensive than what I would like. Appreciate any insights that you may share. If you’re willing to provide a deep discount on the business plan for the first year, that would be amenable to me. Thank you.

Hi there!
I’m glad to hear that you’re moving your site to WordPress.com. :)
After hearing your site requirements, I’m not sure if you even need plugins. You mentioned needing a few pages, a contact form, an RSS feed, and a subscription option. All of those are available even on the free plan. Please see below:
By using the WordPress.com Premium plan, you get to use your own domain as primary, plus a host of other features as outlined in the table here.
Can you tell me which plugins you wanted to use? Or, better yet, what features do you need on your site? I think most, if not all, of what you need is available on the WordPress.com Premium plan. But I can confirm once you tell us more about what you need on your site.
As a side note, you mention moving to WordPress.org in the future. In case you weren’t aware, the WordPress.com Business plan gives you the power of WordPress.org – so if you upgrade to the Business plan — now or in the future — you get the powerful features of WordPress.com hosting coupled with the ability to do nearly everything you can do on a WordPress.org site.
So you won’t even need to migrate to WordPress.org. If you want to use plugins or use third-party themes, you can start with the WordPress.com Business plan. But if it’s too expensive for now, you can start with the Premium plan and upgrade when you need a specific plugin or a third-party theme in the future.
