Q's about embedded Flickr slideshow

Hi everyone. If anyone has encountered this scenario and might be able to direct me, I would appreciate your help. The dilemma is this:

I’ve successfully embedded a test flickr slideshow onto my page — great! (An aside: after grasping the codes written out by Panos and doing many tests, I realized that I could embed by simply copying/pasting the URL into the HTML editor on my page; I did not ever anticipate it would be that simple.) However, I’m not sure how to handle this item in the CSS. I need to “float:right” the slideshow so that the skinny column of (H6) text will bump up next to it. See link:
    http://secondhandplaces.com/work/greyla/

This is the desired relationship between the text and image:
    http://secondhandplaces.com/work/gsdlite/

In my page editor (on “greyla”), the only thing I have written is the link to the slideshow (which is this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51518246@N03/sets/72157627461731172/show/ ) .

Also, is there any way to manipulate the black background color to white? I’ve read a lot about the flickr plug-ins for wordpress.org and know there are more options not available for wp.com blogs (getting rid of the buttons; using third-party programs; changing colors, sizes, etc.) … but could this background be manipulated somehow in the CSS? The font and buttons are both visually too much for my taste, but I’m not so confident there’s anything I can change on this front. In fact, this is the reason that in the second link above, “gsdlite”, I have made the image link to the slideshow; still torn about which path to take.

Any insight, again, would be truly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I am sorry that I cannot help you with your CSS question, but I have tagged it in the hopes that someone with CSS knowledge will be along to help.

    Hi justjennifer,

Thanks for taking a moment to mark this. The issue is still unresolved (a recap: not sure how to refer to embedded content in CSS so that I can “float right”), but after many, many tests, I’m not convinced that the embedded slide show is the route I want to take, and mainly for aesthetic reasons.

If any Theme Wranglers or Happiness Engineers are out there and see this, I have a few thoughts about the slideshow features available here at wordpress.com. I’m not sure this is the right place for this feedback and I know it has been mentioned elsewhere in the forum. My apologies for both the location of the comment as well as its redundancy.

    1. I do really like the slideshow offered by wordpress.com, especially that I could strip away the borders and make it very clean and minimal; however, the problem was that I could not change the height of the viewing box. Because this site is for showcasing design work, I need to maximize that viewing area. On my own site, I managed to change the width of the slideshow to 785px, but the height remains unaffected.
    2. The irksome aspect of embedded Flickr and Slide (the third party service) is that, visually, they look like they came straight off a my-space page. Compared to the nice themes offered by wordpress.com, I think they look of a much lesser quality; very cartoonish, junky, and too crowded with logos, borders, etc. that cannot be manipulated. As for the other third party services, Rock You does not seem to connect to Flickr, and Slideshare is not currently up and running.

Come on wordpress gurus; please work your magic on some of these issues. Aside from the limitations I’ve encountered with the slideshows, I’ve been thrilled with wordpress.com.
