Quentin:Why did my attempt to create a custom menu with appropriate widget fail?
-
I am working in Quentin theme. I wanted to add a page to my blog with my list of publications on it. When I tried to create a menu item under the name ‘Publications’, it didn’t work even though I dragged the custom menu widget into the sidebar and titled it ‘Publications’.
Can you tell me how to create a menu that appears on my post (home) that will link to the page of publications please?
Thankyou; Robert

The custom menu is working, but there is only one item in it named “Publications”. I’m not sure a custom menu widget is what you want. A custom menu is for linking to links, pages, posts, tags or categories from your blog. Are you trying to just list some publications directly in the sidebar? Can you post a short example of what you want that sidebar list to end up looking like?

You say that the ‘custom menu is working’ but the word (menu item) ‘Publications’ does not appear IN THE SIDEBAR on the post (home) page or IN THE SIDEBAR on the page I have created titled ‘Publications’. I am not trying to just list the publications in the sidebar: I want them (about 50 items) listed on a separate page that can be accessed by clicking the word ‘Publications’ in a sidebar item of that name which then takes viewers to the page of publications. So, I want two items to appear in the sidebar of both the home page and the page titled ‘Publications’ as follows:
Home
Publications
so that people can read my home page, then click on the ‘Publications’ word if my publications interest them (and by clicking on this word my list of publications will appear on their screen) and then, once they have checked the publications, they can click on ‘Home’ to return to the main page.
My apologies if my language is not very technical (I am still unfamiliar with most of the language like ‘links’ etc.) but I am trying to describe what I want to happen.
Many thanks; Robert -
You’re all fixed up now. You had placed a Links widget above it, but had no links, which was causing some confusion on the page. I removed the Links widget, and the menu works now.
