query about ALT text for photos

  I remembered yesterday that there is a field for images that will help blind readers know the content of the image (by having a screen reader describe it to them, I think) but which doesn’t show it a caption. Is this the ALT text field? If not, which field is it, please? Sorry, but it’s two years since I blogged here and I’ve forgotten a lot. Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this as I’d like blind people to be able to enjoy my blog as well as sighted people.
