I bought a domain yesterday for my art site (now artbyvalerde.com) and just spotted this:
This upgrade will be renewed automatically in 11 months on 20/05/2013
I thought this was for a full year? What’s with the ’11 months’?

Yeah, but this is an automatic renewal so I don’t actually have to do anything manually.

If you have auto renew enabled, we renew your domain one month in advance. This way, we have enough time to handle any issues that may come up, like declined transactions, etc. If we waited until the actual expiration date, and your auto renew transaction was declined, you’d lose the domain.
The renewal is still for one year from the date of expiration, so you still get the full year. We just charge you in advance.
We send several reminders before we run the charge, and you can always review your upgrades under Store in your dashboard.

One thing – you say “if you have auto renew enabled” – isn’t auto-renew the default? If not, is there something I need to check to make sure it’s activated?

Yes, it’s the default, but you can disable it. You currently have auto renew enabled.
