Query about two issues with themes
-
Hello there,
I have an issue with the Hemingway Rewritten theme that occurred after I switched the theme to another and switched back to this one. Now the featured images have stopped appearing altogether for my posts. I tried all the settings in the “Content Options” in customizing, but nothing is working.I was trying out the Canard theme but somehow it’s not allowing me to change the slug. That’s the reason I switched back to Hemingway but now I am stuck with this issue.
Can someone please suggest from their experience on what other theme (free ones) might have both features – editability of slug and displaying featured images or how to fix the issue with my current theme?
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Now the featured images have stopped appearing altogether for my posts. I tried all the settings in the “Content Options” in customizing, but nothing is working.
Noting your first theme switch was from Hemingway Rewritten to Rowling, and you made several other theme switches during the past three days, both before and after you had Canard active – I count at least 7 themes you’ve activated and reactivated on your site.
It’s possible during one of those changes something got stuck in the site cache. I manually cleared that, and featured images on your site are working as expected for me now.
However, I notice you currently have them disabled for single posts, so they won’t show on single posts unless you change that. And keep in mind that the front page of the site only shows featured images on posts that have been marked as sticky posts – at the moment you have no posts like that on your site.
I was trying out the Canard theme but somehow it’s not allowing me to change the slug.
Changing the slug is a core WordPress feature. There is no possible way that your choice of theme can affect your ability to change the slug, so if that feature is not working for you, it’s something else causing it.
On what post are you unable to change the slug? Are you using the editor in My Sites or WP-Admin, and are you using the block editor or the classic editor to edit your posts?

Hi,
Thank you for your help! I have now changed the theme to Baskerville and will see how it works.
After some more exploration, I understood the problem with the slug. When I first create the post, the wordpress engine (for lack of a better word) assigns a number to the permalink and at that time it appears non-editable. Then when I save the post with a heading, then it assigns the heading as the slug. That slug is then editable.
So it’s fine now :-).About the site caching, is there something that I can do to resolve it by myself when I find this happening again?

Hi profundareflexion,
About the site caching, is there something that I can do to resolve it by myself when I find this happening again?
The option to clear site cache (which is what @kokkieh did) is only available on our side and therefore something that needs to be done by staff.
Clearing site cache generally isn’t something we need to do that often though, so hopefully this was just a temporary issue — but do get in touch if you have any more trouble :)

Hi gemmacevans,
Thanks. It is still a problem unfortunately with the Hemingway theme. So I cannot revert to it.
May be a bug needs to be reported there.. -
Thanks, we’re not seeing the issue when using Hemingway Rewritten, like on the demo for example https://hemingwayrewrittendemo.wordpress.com/ but we’ll keep poking around until we can reproduce the issue.
Just to confirm now, you are no longer seeing the issue under the Baskerville 2 theme?

Hi macmanx,
Thanks.
I am still seeing the issue with Baskerville 2. See for example, this post where I didn’t change the alignment of images from “center aligned” to “no alignment” https://reflectionsontheriver.wordpress.com/2018/11/21/athens10/.
All images there are center aligned and the text is therefore, moved to the left, as reported in the bug. With Hemingway, I see the issue right away when I am in “Try and Customize” mode. I am not sure how to attach a screenshot here.

Hi fstat,
Thanks. I have uploaded now. The title is “Hemingway_Try and Customize”.
I tried checking and unchecking the options under “Featured Images” on the left hand side menu but nothing worked.
The featured images don’t appear on the blog nor on individual posts.
