Question #1

As 50MB do tend to run out, no matter how much I $crooge on my uploads, sooner or later I’ll have to get myself within the reach of Paypal’s claws. Having read lots and lots of bad news about this service, I wonder how WordPress bloggers get their upgrades done at all. I mean, we can’t all work our ways into the Blog Top Ten or the management staff & their priviliges, right? (joking!)
As WP offers hardly any alternatives – and I certainly checked forum posts extensively – I wonder, wouldn’t it be so much easier if WordPress/Automattic offered a no-nonsense, direct bank account? Or will that bring WP into tax troubles, or the CIA?
(joking! joking!)Sorry for nagging about it one more time, but so far I haven’t been able to grasp any of your donation/credits system. I just want to buy (a modest) CSS control and more upload space by the time my free MB’s run out, that’s all. And, well, hairy constitutions like PayPal shouldn’t be feeded in the first place.

Right now it’s Paypal only or get folks to donate credits to you. In theory, it protects both sides although we all know that that’s not true.

= OR =
…Been looking for that magic word all over the planet without knowing what I was looking for! It’s ‘this’, or ‘that’! I’ve misunderstood all the time.
Oké, getting ripped off by PayPal I’ll just risk. We’re not talking hundreds of pounds, after all. -
…And if you pay with just a credit card and not via an actual Paypal account, if something goes wrong, you can get your bank involved. (By paypal’s rules, they’ll cancel your paypal account if you get your bank involved.)
Most complaints I’ve read about paypal is usually prefaced with “I left all my money in my paypal account and they froze it all.” I have a couple of hosting clients who pay me via paypal and that account gets emptied every day. I don’t keep any money in there and the account that it is connected to is a business drop account that gets emptied out every night.
-
=I left all my money in my paypal account=
In my case there’s hardly any ‘all’, but even then I wouldn’t be that stupid…=a business drop account that gets emptied out every night.=
…And you think that night’s darkness will save you from them? Thanks for the advices, drmike.

FDIC issurance and governmental regulations. It’s regular bank accounts. Deposit it locally into a Bank of America. Gets transfered to Vermont National during the overnight. Standard setup for most retail stores actually depending on what’s local to your location.
Heck, I don’t even have a paypal debit card anymore. Gave that up sionce I never used it.

Somehow I feel that once upon a time the WP patent holder married the niece of the PayPal patentee. They had a little one and called it Bonding.

Paypal are evil, pure and simple. I refuse to use them on principle now. I bought a computer through ebay (first and last time). Computer never arrived, couldnt reach the seller. So i went to paypal. Their reply: Sorry, that acount dosent haven any fuinds in it, as soon as there are funds enough in that account we’ll recover it for you’
Never got my money back from them, after 4 weeks of trying i gave up and went to the CC company who refunded it within 2 days >.<
Amazon payments is much better IMO

Don’t get me started on Amazon either.
Web 2.0 needs a grandmother or two to teach these youngsters some manners. :)
