Question

Hey
Just wondering, I’m on the free plan on WordPress and have a site with valuable information on it (coursework for my diploma). If anything happened to the site at all e.g. hacked or delete by error, is there a backup to get all my posts back or do I have to have a paid plan for that?
Thanks, Bertie. -
When I attempt to approve a comment on a posting on my blog I get the message “Sorry, but the provided signature isn’t valid”. Do anyone know what that’s all about?
-
Hi Bertie –
We handle back ups of all sites on our hosting service. You do not need a paid plan. Keep in mind, that you shouldn’t have any problems with hacking so long as you use a strong, unique, password and enable 2 factor authentication on your WordPress.com and email accounts.

Hi kiaskx –What site are you working on? Please share the URL.

Hm, that’s odd you have full access here.
First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

No success so far. The message appears after I click on the Approve box in the WP email. The HTML associated with the message is https://public-api.wordpress.com/bar/?stat=groovemails-events&bin=wpcom_email_click&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.com%2Fcomment%2Fkiaskblog.wordpresscom%2F293%3Faction%3Dapprove&sr=1&signature=d2bd617562e14f18ae2bf11c51c826e4&user=33778190&_e=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&_z=z. My default browser is Microsoft Edge. Strangely, I seem to have Version 44 installed, though the “browsehappy” website indicates there have only been 17 versions. I emptied the browser history and caches, but don’t know how to disable browser extensions or add-ons.

Are you able to approve the comment if instead you click on the notifications icon top-right of the page on WordPress.com, or if you go directly to the comment management page at My Site ->Site ->Comments?
-
Yes. Going through the Notification icon worked. Thanks. (Does that mean it has nothing to do with WordPress, but is something on my end?)
-
We don’t know for sure. Where does the
Sorry, but the provided signature isn’t validappears? In the post or in your dashboard? -
I get a blank page with simply the WordPress URL I provided at the top and below it the “Sorry…” message.
-
Hmmm. Let’s do this. Please take a screen shot of what you are seeing.
Since your dashboard isn’t working properly you can share that image here with us through a third party like droplr or snag.gy.

Thanks for the screenshot!
I’ve been investigating a bit and the issue might be on your end. What email client are you using? It might be altering the link and causing the error you see. -
-
Most likely your email client re-encoded the link that was already encoded on our end when we sent it to you, causing it to become invalid.
Unfortunately that’s something we have no control over, as it’s either your email provider, or your email software, Outlook in this case, doing it. But this tends to happen only occasionally, in other words, it shouldn’t happen to all links, but it might happen sometimes.
When it happens, just go to the relevant WordPress.com page directly to make the changes instead.
-
Thanks. By the way, I don’t remain logged onto WordPress ever since I cleaned out my cache. How do I restore that option?
-
Hmm, this would be coming from your browser, try checking your particular cookie settings for the browser you are using – check especially for the session time.
I’m not using Edge myself so I can’t really advise, but you can have a look at similar threads from the official support forum here.
